They are rarely useful at other times in the game. They can even guarantee you a victory in the first turn, but nothing more. Typically, you buy these minions when there is no better option. These are minions that have useful effects, but do not have synergies and do not generate economies. Let's say that this card is only excellent if you triple it to the second or third turn, then you can upgrade your tavern tier really fast. Its only use is to have a useful effect in the mid-game, but for Deck Swabbie to be worth, you need to already have an advanced board that can generate gold by buying cards from the pirate tribe.Īnd even then, he's still not the best option at this stage of the game. This minion doesn't scale, doesn't generate economy, and doesn't get you anywhere for the first few turns. In the past, due to quests, Tavern Tipper was a little better, and some rewards allowed you to not be punished as much when your entire Gold was not spent.īut these days, being efficient with your economy is crucial, and this minion pushes your game towards high-risk comps with middling rewards.ĭeck Swabbie is useful, but not as your first buy. Hoarding resources to increase this minion's stats isn't a brilliant long-term strategy. It is possible to prepare a build that scales from the first turns with the Tavern Tipper, which can be very strong, but not all heroes allow this planning, and in general, it is not worth it. In general, they are not good either at the beginning or at the end of the game, and investing resources in them is not recommended at all. Those are minions that only lose or draw, do not generate savings, and do not take your composition anywhere. We definitely feel like the buffs to Grease Bot and to Guff were too much, and hope they’ll be addressed soon enough. We'll start from worst to best, with a brief description of what the minion does, what it proposes in the game, and why and when you should buy it. Overall, the Battlegrounds meta is less balanced right now than it was two weeks ago. Perhaps we’ll see a future balance update take him down a notch as well. The gentle giant stomped his way to the top and became the strongest Battlegrounds hero for the time being. On the same patch that saw the buff to Grease Bot’s effect, changing it from +1/+1 to +3/+2, Guff’s Hero Power received a similar buff, also going from +1/+1 to +3/+2 - and the result was much the same. The one hero who’s absolutely demolishing the competition, however, is Guff Runetotem. Lady Vashj is not necessarily overpowered, like other newcomers we’ve seen in the past - picking her is no guarantee of winning, but she’s definitely present among the solid choices we have right now. The newest addition to Battlegrounds is a solid hero. Is Lady Vashj another overpowered newcomer? Or is there someone else at the top? I honestly expect Mechs to see some nerfs before too long - possibly with Grease Bot itself being toned down. We’re seeing this happen on ladder, but also on tournament events, such as the recent Lobby Legends. The current state of the Battlegrounds meta is that if Mechs are in the game, chances are that you’re going for it, and the players who succeed in pulling it off are probably ending up in the top positions. And here’s where the Grease Bot buff makes a huge difference: your Divine Shield mechs now scale more than twice as fast with the change from +1/+1 to +3/+2, quickly reaching very high stat numbers. They had one weakness - they didn’t scale their stats as well as other comps like Naga, Elementals, or Demons. And that simple change was enough to make Mechs start absolutely dominating Battlegrounds.īefore this buff Mechs were already a solid composition, with their ability to keep regaining Divine Shield over and over during a match, and summoning more Mechs (or even re-summoning themselves). But far more importantly, its effect was buffed to give your friendly minions +3/+2, rather than +1/+1, when they lose Divine Shield. Grease Bot went from a Tier 4 minion to Tier 6 its stats were increased from 3/6 to 4/7, and it gained Divine Shield. On the latest Hearthstone Battlegrounds patch we saw a buff to Grease Bot, but we had no idea just how much that simple change would impact the entire meta of the game mode.
